I have been on odesk for almost 4 months and still I am struggling to land a job as a competitive Virtual Assistant. It was really quite frustrating sometimes sending application after application and no word from an employer or you always received notifications that the job has already been filled up or they choosen other applicants. I tired lowering my hourly rate to about 0.5 dollars an hour and still to no avail.
Somehow I landed my first job maybe through luck and maybe that employer of mine is just to generous to try my skill. He admitted also that it was he's first time to hire a virtual assistant in odesk. I was really very excite on my first job in odesk. The employer handed me a link to the instruction on how this task should be done. Somehow I manage to understand the instruction and started right away on the task and unfortunately my internet in a little bit to slow to open different tab in order for me to work faster and download important information from a website and copy paste in to an excel spreadsheet as what the instruction has stated. It was my first time also to be invited in a team room and still learning to use the features on this odesk application. I was having trouble on how to delete my photo on my work diary since everytime odesk team room take a snapshot of my work it will include my picture, since I was still in my sleeping clothes (that's how exciting I am on my first odesk task and I forgot to even change my clothes for the camera) snapshot). Somehow I manage to figure out how to delete my photo in my odesk work diary after hour of studying the system and I felt I sighed of relief at least my team members cannot view my photo in my awkward attire.
I only managed to work for 2 hours on that first task of mine since there are four of us, I think that was hired simultaneously for the task and that two hour trial time maybe to test the accuracy and speed of hour work. Accuracy of my work is not a problem for me but somehow I cannot cope up with the speed of my other team members because of the slow speed on my internet connection. In this virtual assistant word you need to have fast internet connection in order to cope with the demands of virtual assistant job especially on work schedules.
